KEEP THE HITCH OUT OF YOUR GIDDY-UP
TRY COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING!
TRY COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING!
Are you tired of horse thieves, bank robbers, and mine poachers…...? Well, Owlkill Rod & Gun Club could help you make them all go away!
The Gun Club is wondering if any of you “wanna-be cowboys" would be interested in "settling up" a competition using period clone or actual firearms from the 1860’s to 1899. In the beginning we would allow revolvers that are single action like Ruger Blackhawks, a basic lever action rifle, and a side by side shotgun (no auto ejectors) or Model 1897 Winchester slide.
The targets would be metal set up for shooting a TIMED STAGE in which a shooter would use all three firearms stated above thru each stage. ACCURACY and TIME in a stage with the cowboy having the LOWEST SCORE would be the winner. The more time it takes, targets missed, and procedural mistakes will count against you for a final score. In addition, the stage needs to be completed in the sequence of firearms designated and how many hits on targets are required. This type of shooting gives an adrenaline rush for accuracy, quickness, AND knowing which targets to hit, what sequence, and how many times you hit the target by the scenario. Sounds easy…..THINK AGAIN!
NOT SURE IF YOU ARE INTERESTED...GO TO YOUTUBE and in the search box type: "Light em up ll Cowboy action promo" and click the search icon..
Firearm requirements: 1860-1899 clones or authentic.. In the beginning, we would allow other firearms such as Ruger single actions with adjustable rear sight and others like them to be used in the "SPIRIT OF THE GAME” or some of us call it SPORTSMANSHIP”.
Revolvers: Minimum Centerfire 32-20 to 45 colt including 44 mag/special. (Children age 16 or less .22) Power factor: Minimum PF=60 (Bullet size X Velocity/1000) Ex. 100 gr. bullet X 600 fps/1000=60. Velocity: minimum 400 fps /max. 1000fps Bullets: Lead only Open sight: black, brass, stainless, or white 5 rounds/revolver loaded. Hammer on empty chamber.. called a "John Wayne" load.
Lever action Rifles: Revolver calibers same as above…..NO RIFLE LOADS! Matching with revolvers is best. Velocity: minimum 400fps/ max 1400fps. Bullets: Lead only Iron sights: brass, black, stainless, or white 10 rounds.
Shotgun Gauges: Minimum 20 ga. to 10 ga. minimum barrel length 20 inches Shot #4 - #9. (Children age 16 or less .410) Shot: Lead only Bead; brass, black, stainless, or white max 2 rounds.
These are some the basic requirements and would have to be ironed out depending on if or what we might want to achieve in this competition. To get a sampling of the Single Action Shooters Society go to utube on your computer and pull up some cowboy action shooting competition and see just how people of all ages "Get INTO IT”. European countries send competitors to the yearly “END OF TRAIL” to compete for the different categories of world champions. Right here in New York State in Saratoga Springs the Circle “K” Regulators CAS has the cowboy who has been the World Champion "Fastest Gun” 2 years in a row and can be seen on Youtube. He can draw 2 revolvers and shoot 10 rounds, a lever action rifle with 10 rounds, and shotgun with at least 4 rounds, run from each position to the next, grabbing the shotgun or rifle in less than 27 seconds and shoot a “ Clean Sweep! Think about that.
TRIVIA: back in the day, a 45 round cost the same as an ounce of whiskey, that's how it got its name. Give me a “shot" of whiskey…i.e. shot glass.
The Single Action Shooting Society (SASS) which I am a member of with an alias of "Colonel John Henry” is a nationwide as well as worldwide shooting society. It's interesting to dress in period clothing, shoot firearms of that era and fun for the whole family with many shooting categories. Look them up and you will find the the SASS Shooters Handbook and see ALL of the requirements for the shooters.
We are just looking for a beginning….Please contact me if interested via email to: email@example.com
